Fortune my foe is the debut solo recording by Romanian harpsichord virtuoso Alina Rotaru on Carpe Diem. It is a brilliantly virtuosic but also very personal approach to the music of the great Flemish composer Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck.
The record strives not, first and foremost, to present Sweelinck’s harpsichord repertoire in its completeness but rather to paint an inner journey of the reality of life of the judicious and cosmopolitan Flemish organ and harpsichord player.
Thanks for your amazing play (and view!) in the You Tube-performance of Paduana Lachrymae. Really great. Curious to more of your records.
A correction: Sweelincks was a DUTCH (Netherlands) composer, absolutely not a Flemish (Belgium). Born in Deventer, worked and died in Amsterdam.
Thank you. And yes, you’re absolutely right (Dutch).
